Apples & Air

Let’s talk about the biggest struggle I’ve had so far on my weight loss journey…nutrition. I’ve done countless google searches, watched hours of videos on YouTube and read book after book. I even paid for a personal nutritionist for 3 months at the beginning of 2022 but still it’s been a struggle. Let me give y’all a little bit of background, tell you what’s currently working now and leave you with the biggest message I’m sure I’ll ever post.

I’ve always had digestion issues growing up for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I’ve learned to navigate food as best as possible and learned to always have some sort of antacid on standby. It wasn’t until this year that I’ve gotten extremely serious about correcting my digestion issues and not just learning to live with it. After looking for a fix in every corner of the internet, I decided to take a Women’s Health Test from EverlyWell.

Results came back showing that I have a major hormone imbalance called Estrogen Dominance. I won’t go into all the details but I will say this was my first big break in getting on the right track. In previous years, when I’ve gone to the doctor and mentioned digestive issues, they would want to prescribe meds and that just never felt right. I did see some improvement with my nutritionist and started to learn the importance of whole foods but there was still some things that did not align.

So off I went back to scour the interwebs, with a more targeted research approach which lead me to an elimination diet specifically focused on helping to rebalance hormones. I am currently eliminating dairy, eggs, gluten, sugar, caffeine and nightshades for the next 30 days. So far, it’s been amazing but you can tell by the list that it is highly restrictive and for most, it would be unnecessary. This leads me to the biggest message I have for anyone reading this…you have to be your own biggest health advocate! I wanted to be sure to cover my own background in this post so y’all can see what lead me to such a restrictive meal plan. I never want to lead with some catchy BS clickbait title to get someone to follow what I did for the hell of it.

Being your own health advocate means taking the time to read, research, and find out what works best for you. To not blindly follow the latest fad on social media. This is the rollercoaster I’ve been on for too many years. One of my intentions with this blog is to show the reality of weight loss. Yes, some people can start intermittent fasting, not change a single thing else and drop weight like crazy. But for some folks, like myself, it is a struggle. Even when you think you are doing everything correctly or to the best of your ability but the needle is not moving. Keep going and you will get on the right path for what works for you. It may work for a week. It may work forever. The learning is all part of the journey!

Latergram - I completed my elimination diet in August and it was rough but I did it! I've slowly added back eggs and some nightshades. So far so good!
